On delivery of your recreational
vehicle you will get extensive explanations on all tools of the
vehicle.
-
Before you start, together we will
check your car for damages (inside and outside) and all mechanical and
electrical functions. If there is any defect which cannot be cleared
before you leave, we will have it noted on the rental agreement which
you will sign, and have it approved by Arrantea Motorhome
Rental.
-
Always take into consideration
that driving a motorhome is different from driving a sedan. The height
of the body makes it very sensitive for blowing wind. Always watch for
low clearance. Don't enter doorways or drive under bridges when your
vehicle is taller than the height listed on signs.Overhead roof and
undercarriage damage is excluded from any insurance. Any overhead
roof and undercarriage damage will be fully charged to the
renter. Also look for hanging branches when driving under trees. Be
careful when driving over tops or through dips. Motorhomes may hang over
at the rear. When passing, the outside mirrors may not give a total
overview, and a rear mirror very often is not of big help. When backing
up the vehicle, or when parking the second driver should always !
stay outside and give signs.
Keep to the speed limits at all times.
Police fines can be enormous and must usualy be paid immediately,
cutting deeply into your holiday budget…. We recommend a maximum speed
of 80-90 Km/h (= 50-55 MpH), if there is not a sign indicating less. At
that speed you will also safe (in Europe quite expensive)
fuel.
-
When driving in the car all
passengers and the driver should always use the seat belts for their own
security. Also persons traveling in the cabin should use the available
belts in the living area. In all European countries this is
mandatory.
-
Check regularly the oil level of
the engine and the transmission, check the battery and the lights, the
breaks, and the tire pressure. Have done all necessary services and
inspections which are required by Arrantea. Keep all receipts for this
expenses to ask Arrantea for reimbursement on vehicle return.
-
Be very careful with propane.
Control each time the gas pipes for leakage after having driven on a bad
surface. Use a soap liquid. If you see bubbles, drive immediately to a
repair shop to have the pipe tightened.
-
Keep a roof ventilation hatch
closed when driving !. But you may open
it in the night for about 4 to 5 centimeters (approx. 1 1/2" to 2") to
allow fresh air circulation. If opened be very careful and watch for
animals coming trough when parked beneath trees.
-
To avoid problems with the
refrigerator when it works on propane-gas, the vehicle should be kept
always in a horizontal position. If necessary you must put some small
planks under the tires of the vehicle. Cooling and freezing will not
always satisfy your needs. Motorhome fridges do never have the power
which your refrigerator at home has. Sometimes it may be totally
impossible to get the drinks cooled. The low voltage, a different
cooling system, thin isolation of the cooling unit, and the motorhome's
cabin might be the reason for it. Arrantea cannot be held liable for
this incidence.
-
Always open an available roof
hatch or window when using the shower. This enables the humidity to
escape. Avoid to moisten the cabin walls.
-
Chemicals must be added to the
toilet tanks for neutralization. Always very thin or a special motorhome
toilet paper should be used. Sewage tanks must be emptied frequently in
dump stations. The cassette toilet can be emptied into each normal
toilet, which are found on campgrounds, gas stations etc. If there is a
gray water and a separate toilet sewage tank, the water hose should
first be used to empty the toilet tank and than for the gray water tank.
Also the water in the fresh water tank should be replaced more often.
This is highly recommended when traveling in hot countries. We do not
recommend to drink water from the fresh water tank at least in hot(ter)
countries !
-
For your own safety you should
always try overnighting in caravan parks / campsites. Lock all vehicle
doors and windows, and take with you all valuables, passports, ID cards
etc. with you when leaving the car.
-
Before driving away from a camp
site, please control all drawers, cupboard and other doors inside the
car and have them locked. Also lock the cabin's outside doors. Check for
loose items, (e.g. drawers or doors which cannot be locked) and if
necessary have them fixed with a tape. Walk again around the vehicle,
look whether the door steps are in an upright and safe position and
nothing left at the site. Have a look under the car too.
